Been looking for a nice clean-sounding transfer of "Hippy Elevator Operator" by The W.C. Fields Memorial Electric String Band for some time. The only place that song's ever been comped is one of the Boulders LPs--and it sounds like it came off a sixth generation tape of a copy of the 45 found in the middle of a street somewhere!

As a big fan of your blog (I've discovered countless fantastic albums here), I wanted to give something back in the form of my own old (late '90's, early naughts) band Rocket Park's two albums.
I'd describe the music as "eclectic pop rock with frequent progressive rock leanings (of a melodic/symphonic/compositional nature moreso than virtuosity)". The guitarist wants to be Jimmy Page, the drummer wants to be Keith Moon, and the keyboardist (moi) utilizes an arsenal of vintage keyboard sounds rivalling Rick Wakeman's stage setup circa 1973. The songs, production and harmonies may remind one of Electric Light Orchestra, and Mellotron junkies (of which I am one) are advised that the second album ("Television") features the string and flute sounds we love so.
Pleased listeners interested in owning physical objects and/or rewarding our efforts can buy either album at CDBaby.com, but if you don't, that's fine as well. We're much more interested in having a discerning audience listen to and, hopefully, enjoy our music.

I do want to request a few things: I'm still hoping that you will re-post the Kraftwerk 'Exceller 8' LP, as it is nowhere to be found in the blogiverse. I love the idea of creating a 'sampler' album in which songs flow in & out of one another (I'll bet Kraftwerk hated that!). That's wish #1.
The new request (wish #2) is for the 2nd LP (also on CD) by Third Ear Band from 1970- it came out after 'Alchemy' and before their self-titled LP, called 'Abelard And Heloise'. This is the blurb from 'Rate Your Music':
'After their first two albums, Third Ear Band become even more experimental on this soundtrack to the film 'Abelard And Heloise', based on a famous medieval love story.
The record lacks the (relatively) straightforward, danceable folk-jazz of their self-titled release. The six tracks are untitled and vary much more in mood than do the four tracks of their self-titled release. On the whole, there is more emphasis on the melodic oboe and strings, especially in the first part of the album, than can be found on Third Ear Band.
Some of the later "tracks" do come relatively close to the mood of their earlier work, but in the main "Abelard and Heloise" is entirely unclassifiable into any genre, and is much harder to comapre with later artists than Third Ear Band's first two releases. Yet, its passion and beauty - so distinct from "world" or "new age" music - cannot be denied.'
Sounds great, doesn't it? Again, nowhere to be found among the blogs.

Fantastic site but it's getting very expensive, I buy cd's after listening to the download. Can't beat owning the original and my car stacker will only take originals (CDR's jam). Life altering job of posting sublime music that has had quite a major impact to me. I owe a debt of gratitude to you, Mad Hatter.
Not sure if it was once posted here, but I would like to suggest Bill Fay, his work is recently available again.
His 1st album "Bill Fay" was once reviewed as "Sgt. Pepper on Downers".
His 3rd and final album was also reviewed as "being a cross between Dark Side Of The Moon and Alan Parsons Project".
Bill Fay's voice is erriely evocative of Roger Waters & Syd Barrett trying to sing Bob Dylan.
The track "The Sun Is Bored" is phenomenal, like if Roger Waters had joined The Moody Blues during the DOFP 1967.
While Bill's only single "Some Good Advice" brings on Mellotron Flutes and Barrett-like lyrics of riding bikes, building sheds and greasing wheels.
Also any other albums or artistes making heavy use of Mellotron is also appreciated.

If the Doors & Kennelmus had a baby, the Strangers Family Band is their love child!
At seven tracks this EP never wears out welcome, nor-just like a good Stranger, overstays. From the mood-setting/changing opener "Enochian", (well, it would be an opener wouldn't it?), we know we're entering another world. Sound creating a travel ticket. Perfectly segueing into "Girl I've Been Taken," from all sides of the spectrum-in my Sennheisers, this reminds me substantially of those 70s desert-dwelling, peyote-munching psychsters Kennelmus. That's a compliment where I come from.Stylistically, this track also seems to lean more on the early 70s period of psychedelic music.
Track 3, "Wooden Hands", further bids you to come into their funhouse mirror world o' weird. A Music Hall romp with horn-backed chorus.
Track 4, "No One Sees Her", maintains the vibe of the prior tack, set up nicely by a small-stringed instrument-ukelele? Mandolin? and shuffles along right past the tilt-o-whirl, a la The Seeds "Nobody Spoil My Fun."
"Strange Transmission" should be familiar to regular readers of this blog for its inclusion on this year's Summer Solstice, Volume II compilation. Opening with SITAR (!), this is pure Doorsian wobble, a long-lost companion and heir to "The End." At seven minutes it's also in the right proportion, too.
"Tangerine", to these ears wouldn't sound outta' place-at all, on the Brian Jonestown Massacre's albums, say circa Methodrone. Complete with Anton-like affected Engle-accented vocals.
The EP ends with "Beware The Autumn People", a trip into an alterniverse where the only song anyone's ever heard is "Soul Kitchen"! Yet these guys manage to somehow break the stranglehold. A slow-burning center to propel it and a swagger which demands attention from your third eye.
I'll stand by my assertion, made earlier, these guys are a product of a Doors-Kennelmus tryst, made one night out near the old prison town of Yuma, a bag of peyote being passed around, and after enough digestion the guitars and percussion come out as a crescent moon slowly rises overhead...those sounds? They entered the Noosphere and were caught in transmission many moons later by a group of guys trying. Trying. As long as they're doing so I'll keep buying the string of tickets from the barker...

After perusing for a while, I know I'm going to spend a lot of time at this blog.
My request though, if possible, is something more in the vein of pop/rock of the early 70's. It's a band called Manna. The band was something more like Bread, but with a harder edge to themselves.
The cover was dark tan and the letters for Manna looked similar to Jewish script. I can't remember much more about it other than it had songs on it like "We Can Make It If We Try" and "Red Man".
I had this album many years ago, but never saw another copy of it again other than my own, and I lost mine, tragically. It might have bee on the Columbia label, but I'm not sure.
I've looked all over the internet for years and haven't found one mention.
Now, is that a challenge or what?

from 1973 this is accreditted to the band Pescado Rabioso, but actually it is a work by the singer and composser "Luis Alberto Spinetta". the album is called "Artaud"
If you like it, tell my and i´ll send you more folk music from here, from the 70´s. (which is very interesting also because of its historical context, related to dictatorship times)
